First Impressions

At first Glance it bowls you Over and the stunning looks can be compared with the best SUVs in the world. Mahindra has pulled up an ace in the shape of an XUV500 and Full marks for getting every inch of it Bang on. It’s a Big step forward and XUV500 is right there in the consideration set appealing to o the sophisticated Urban taste and the Macho Rural sensibilities.

The monocoque SUV design has a “WOW” factor and lots of national and international feedback of different customers has gone inside in giving it the shape , size and character that it has got .The four years that Mahindra took to build is finally ready to roll with all guns Blazing.

The Recent Commercial hits you on the face With a big Thank you for the Overwhelming response and that the bookings are stopped Now. Well it could be a genius Marketing trick or a reality , But the fact is XUV 500 Packs in a lot of punch to be a sold out product.

The Drive

All options Open : two and all-wheel drive ; manual and automatic, powered by the tested Scorpio mHawk engines. What was amusing is the Envious Stares you get while on the road , some of it has got to do with its newness but mostly the Good looks comes into play here .

We felt the shocks could have been better , but overall there wasn,t much fuss . You cant help comparing it with scorpio which has a bumpy ride , but XUV scores very high in this regard.

There is also hill-descent control and hill hold, just in case you intend to do some offroading.

The needle in the speed bar touches 60 km from a standing start in 5.4 seconds .The engine, unlike other Mahindra vehicles, is laid transverse, or east-west, than north-south and sounds surprisingly refined compared with the Scorpio. The gearshift is smooth, with a dogleg reverse, but it hasn’t reached the maturity of SUVs like the CR-V, Pajero and Outlander , but it’s fast catching up.

The Engine

Its powered by the same 2.2 litre diesel engine which is donning the hood of Mahindra Scorpio but it has been fine-tuned to generate maximum power of 140 Bhp at 3750 rpm and maximum torque of 330 Nm at 1600 rpm. Mahindra XUV 500 comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and the ARAI certified mileage is 15.1 kmpl, which is a big Plus considering the size and weight of the SUV. It Also features a Monocoque chassis.

The Interiors

We can safely conclude that the Mahindra XUV500 is the most spacious and feature-rich SUV in its segment , infact the price bracket that it is in , there isn’t any competion. It comes decked up with modern looking twin-pod instrument cluster, very stylish central console and all-new interesting design for the AC vents. The top-model also comes loaded with Remote central locking/Keyless entry system, climate control system, Cruise, audio, phone controls & voice command switches on steering, 6-inch colour touch screen infotainment display, AUX, Bluetooth and USB support, Flip key with remote central locking , 8-way adjustment for driver's seat, Electrically adjustable and retractable ORVMs, AC vents for rear passengers, Dual-tone theme for upholstery and dashboard, rear wiper/washer. What we especially liked is that the steering wheel of XUV500 has controls for the music system and it has designed pretty well, the bottom has silver matte finish and rest of the part is leather clad.
